Tinder is the New Couchsurfing
Tinder. A symptom of our time. Used in all kinds of ways. For some of us it might be a digital search engine for our soulmate, for some for new friends, for others to connect to people in places you don't know.
Having been on and off the App it never really did for me what I was looking for maybe because I wasn't really looking for anything. Giving it a new approach in an unknown environment it opened up many different doors for me.
In search of a place to sleep in a city that's too expensive for the living and too cheap for the dying I started tindering hoping for a couch as options seemed limited. Getting easily in contact with many people in a short amount of time I did not only connect to interesting people but also found information on my travel plans without even having to ask for it. Help, support and open doors.
Meeting one of them after just a short exchange going for the mutually needed walk I found an excellent conversation partner, an open heart, a brave soul, a couch to sleep on and most of all new insights of the opportunities Tinder gives to people who might have it harder in the outside analogue world approaching people they don't know starting a conversation.
Being an introvert in this world can surely make you face more difficult challenges when it comes to getting to know new people especially in these times. Tinder seems to be a way that opens new doors for those who aren't always brave enough to speak to strangers on the streets, in a bar or in the supermarket. An opportunity that otherwise wouldn't exist and I'm happy to get to see this side of an apparently superficial app bringing superficial posing people together when really it can connect all kinds of people as different and unique as we are all as muc the same with the same fears, the same pains and broken hearts.
Not only did I find a couch to sleep on but I got the same person to reactivate their couchsurfing in a city with limited places to sleep when it comes to backpacking with a limited travel budget. It seems there's more opportunities and options in the frames we build than we might see at first glance and I am more than happy to have found to realize that again. Keeping yours eyes open for more than you see at first sight.
In curiosity to see more opportunities for my eyes weren't able to see before.
