Four Days of Friendship
My last days I decided to spend with one of the most important people I got to meet on my journey. Of course this had to start at my time. 11:11. As the bus stops, I get out at the coast I only see the numbers. The Universe is with me while I jump on the next one to my final destination to meet her. I’m so happy. „In case you’re hungry when you arrive I bought red bananas. The pool is beautiful.“ I can’t wait. Only one more hour. While I watch the turquoise sea, the colorful boats and green palm trees pass by I’m excited for my last days on the paradise beaches of SriLanka with the bestest.
Getting out of the bus naturally she’s walking towards me. We hug, laugh, I jump into the pool as we grab our things to go to jungle beach. Literal in every way. Lost in the trees, climbing over the rocks. Connected through our bond. One goes the other one comes. We take our first drink under the palm trees. It’s hot, even in the afternoon. This will be the mood set for all our upcoming days that we spend in close connection developing a routine together pursuing our days slowly swimming in the pool, going to eat, having Cocktails in our Favorite bar with our cute Sri Lankan bartenders, watching the rain as well as sweating in the blistering heat. Swimming with sea turtles snorkeling in the water, getting matching tattoos, finishing the days with our gin tonics and an incredible sunset across the sea. Finding new places, pouring each other’s hearts out appreciating the last moments we have together as friends, as travelers and as life companions. The last goodbye after our favorite meal, walking down the picturesque beach alley. My heart knows this won’t be the last time that we meet each other.
Only half an hour later I’m on the way to the airport. Same setting. The heat almost unbearable. The sweat running down my entire body from head to toes. I’m exhausted. It’s been my last days with her. I cannot believe I’m leaving this beautiful country of paradise beaches and Jungles as the green tea plantations and rice fields are no less astonishing than the white beaches with the turquoise water and dreamy sunsets.
I’m tired. A new chapter is starting. My driver so kind and caring as all the SriLankis I’ve met throughout my journey. Having to take countless different roads to bypass the strikes, demonstrations and road blocks. Asking every police officer the way to the airport. I can see the look in their faces. Everyone is speaking about the bad situation of the country, how they want the president to go. Taking care of all the visitors best as they can. „Mam you need umbrella mam?“ my driver asks me when I get out the car to go to the toilet that he had asked for in a fancy resort to not make me go to a local one. I walk into a beautiful garden with a swimming pool. A man points me to a hotel bathroom. I’m being treated like a queen. My skin color. My journey in this country is slowly getting to an end going into the next one. The country that I’ve dreamed of for so long. Having my good bye accompanied by my latest friends until the last steps to enter the plane.
A new chapter has begun. The last days, weeks and months filled with experiences that have changed me forever, brought people to me that will stay with me and some that have already left, I feel as I am on the right path.
